born 1979 in qrendi, malta - where he still resides. from a young age david became interested in art, particularly in drawing and painting. eventually, he also became interested in safeguarding and preserving works of art. in 2003 david successfully completed the bachelor in conservation honors course offered by the university of malta and by the former malta centre for restoration. the bachelor course's dissertation deals with the physical deterioration of canvas paintings, specifically on why and how paintings experience stress when they are kept in inadequate environmental conditions and when paintings are over-stretched. the digital copy of this dissertation, titled 'causes and distribution of stress in canvas paintings' can be downloaded from the publications link. in 2003, david was employed by the former malta centre for restoration as a conservator, assistant lecturer and assistant in the management of projects. in 2007 david successfully completed the master in applied conservation course. the master's dissertation evaluated the practice of caring for paintings by improving the paintings' exhibiting environment, particularly by covering paintings with protective materials (such as glass and metal). the benefit of spacing paintings from the wall and covering paintings with impermeable materials was discussed at length since this covering practice can limit physical deterioration such as paint cracks and detachments. this dissertation titled 'covering paintings with protective materials' can also be downloaded from the publications link. david
